This document specifies requirements for the exchange of messages that contain master data consisting of characteristic data. These requirements can be checked by computer. The messages are suitable for exchange between organizations and between systems.<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE\u00a01\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A supplier sends a message to a customer. The message contains characteristic data describing an item that the customer is considering buying.<\/p>\n
The following are within the scope of this document:<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 conformance of master data messages to a formal syntax;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 semantic encoding of master data messages;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 conformance of master data messages to data specifications;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 requirements on access to the data dictionaries that enable decoding of master data messages.<\/p>\n
The following are outside the scope of this document:<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 master data that are not characteristic data;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 data that are not in messages;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 messages that do not exchange master data between organizations or systems;<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A merchant sends a message to a credit card company. The message represents a credit charge transaction and does not exchange master data between the organizations.<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 recording the provenance of master data;<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISO\u00a08000-120 addresses the capture and exchange of data provenance information.<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 accuracy of master data;<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISO\u00a08000-130 addresses the representation and exchange of information about the accuracy of master data that consists of characteristic data.<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 exchange of data that are not master data;<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISO\u00a08000-140 addresses the representation and exchange of information about the completeness of master data that consists of characteristic data.<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 management of master data internally within an organization;<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Data within an organization's enterprise resource planning or product data management system is out of scope.<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Making backup copies of data files containing master data is out of scope.<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 quality of data dictionaries;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a specific formal syntax for the exchange of master data.<\/p>\n
EXAMPLE 8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ISO\u00a09735 series, the ISO\u00a013584 series, the ISO\u00a015926 series and the ISO\u00a022745 series specify formats that enable exchange of master data.<\/p>\n
The requirements in this document are considered necessary but not sufficient to achieve data quality with respect to exchange of master data.
