It addresses the<br \/>\nsiting, licensing and permitting, operation and monitoring of the<br \/>\nincinerator operation, disposal of residues, and decontamination<br \/>\nand decommissioning. This standard may be applied to incineration<br \/>\nof mixed wastes (i.e., radioactive wastes that contain other<br \/>\nhazardous components as defined by federal or state agencies),<br \/>\nprovided consideration is given to additional design features and<br \/>\nregulatory permitting required by the hazardous nature of the<br \/>\nwastes.<\/p>\n<p>For purposes of this standard, incineration is considered a<br \/>\ntreatment or volume-reduction technique rather than a disposal<br \/>\nmechanism.
