Through the CSA Technical Committee on Information Technology (TCIT), Canadians serve as the SCC Mirror Committee (SMC) on ISO\/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1 on Information Technology (ISO\/IEC JTC1) for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the ISO member body for Canada and sponsor of the Canadian National Committee of the IEC. Also, as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Canada participates in the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (ITU-T).<\/p>\n<p>For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as CAN\/CSA-ISO\/IEC 15459-2 throughout.<\/p>\n<p>This Standard supersedes CAN\/CSA-ISO\/IEC 15459-2:07 (adopted ISO\/IEC 15459-2:2006). At the time of publication, ISO\/IEC 15459-2:2015 is available from ISO and IEC in English only. CSA Group will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO and IEC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This part of ISO\/IEC 15459 specifies the procedural requirements to maintain identities and outlines the obligations of the Registration Authority.<\/p>\n<p>This part of ISO\/IEC 15459 excludes those entities where ISO has designated Maintenance Agencies or Registration Authorities to provide identity and\/or identifier schemes.<\/p>\n<p>It does not apply to:   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>freight containers, because their unique coding is specified in ISO 6346, Freight containers &#8211; Coding, identification and marking;<\/li>\n<li>vehicles, because their unique identification is specified in ISO 3779, Road vehicles &#8211; Vehicle identification number (VIN) &#8211; Content and structure;<\/li>\n<li>car radios, because their unique identification is specified in ISO 10486, Passenger cars &#8211; Car radio identification number (CRIN).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The exclusion also applies to:   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ISO 2108, Information and documentation &#8211; International standard book number (ISBN) and ISO 3297, Information and documentation &#8211; International standard serial number (ISSN);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NOTE The scope of each of ISO 2108 and ISO 3297 identifies the title rather than the individual copy of a book or periodical. As such, the level of identification achieved is at a level similar to the unique identity as defined in ISO\/IEC 15459-6.
