Specifies purity requirements and physical characteristics for salt graded according to defined ranges of crystal size as suitable for automatic cheese salting, continuous butter making and batch butter churning. Appendices give methods of sampling and testing and recommendations are made on packaging and storage. Included in this Standard is AS 2093P, Reference Print, showing standard discs for use in assessing matter insoluble in water by the filter pad method.

Scope

This specification applies to dried salt, as received from the supplier, which has been produced by either the vacuum or the solar evaporation method and is intended for use in the manufacture of dairy products, with particular application to butter and cheese manufacture.
